Bon Jovi es una banda estadounidense de hard rock, formada en Sayreville (Nueva Jersey) en 1983, por Jon Bon Jovi (líder y cantante), con Richie Sambora en la guitarra, David Bryan en los teclados, Tico Torres como batería y Alec John Such como bajista (sustituido no oficialmente en 1994 por Hugh McDonald).
Bon Jovi alcanzó gran éxito y fama mundial en las décadas de los 80, 90 y 2000, convirtiéndose en un clásico del Rock. Dio el salto al estrellato mundial con el álbum Slippery When Wet, que llegó a ser el más vendido del año 1987 en Estados Unidos.1 De este álbum además, sobresale su tema de mayor éxito; Livin' On a Prayer, designada como la mejor canción de los años 80 por la cadena norteamericana VH1.
Durante la década de los 80 Bon Jovi se caracterizó por ser una banda de Glam metal, género que decayó a principios de los 90 debido al auge del Rock alternativo. Por esta razón muchos consideraron que las bandas ochenteras como Bon Jovi estaban acabadas; sin embargo, el grupo norteamericano dio un cambio radical a su música y regresó en 1992 con el álbum Keep The Faith, que llegó a vender más de 12 millones de ejemplares. Algo similar ocurrió al inicio de su tercera etapa en 2000, cuando alcanzaron gran éxito y repercusión gracias al álbum Crush, del que sobresale su exitoso tema It's My Life.
Desde entonces la banda se ha ido adaptando musicalmente a cada época, cosechando gran éxito en ventas (más de 120 millones de álbumes vendidos3 ) y repercusión social, superando en ese aspecto a otras grandes bandas supervivientes de su tiempo como Guns N' Roses, Europe o Mötley Crüe.
Por otro lado, Bon Jovi ha participado en varios eventos importantes como el Monsters of Rock (ediciones de 1985, 1986 y 1987), el Rock in Río (ediciones de 1985, 2008 y 2010), el Live 8 o el Live Earth, además de ser uno de los pocos grupos que ha tenido la oportunidad de tocar en el Central Park y el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York.4 5 En 2007 tuvo el privilegio de inaugurar el estadio O2 Arena de Londres, además de reinaugurar el Estadio Nacional de Chile ante 80 000 fanáticos en Octubre del 2010.
